BIO/ Lisa Dunn
Believe it or not I didn’t come to Nashville for the music industry but to
attend Belmont University. At the time I’m not even sure I knew that Belmont
had a music program. I graduated with a double major in communications,
broadcasting and journalism, and of course became close friends to a lot of
successful music industry grads.
Before becoming a graphic artist, I worked in a variety of fields in the
communication’s industry. My first job out of college was at a film and
video production company where I wore many hats: craft services, production
assistant to producer.
From there I took a leap of faith taking a position as a paste-up artist at
a small design firm. I can still remember slicing type. Oops! A couple of
years later I accepted a position as a traffic manager at an advertising
agency, Hart & Company, which later merged with Gish, Sherwood & Friends.
This is where I was able to learn every facet of the agency business
including workflow and deadlines. These have been invaluable tools in
juggling my own business and an asset to my freelance work at various
agencies.
After a while I grew weary of the day-to-day grind and wanted to return to
graphic design. So I began freelancing at agencies while building and
maintaining my own clientele. For more than 10 years, I have either filled
in the gaps wherever and whenever I’m needed or have continued to drum up my
own projects....and of course, made a lot of friends along the way.
